The first wave I ever caught was without any kind of board. I bet that you could probably say the same thing. Most of us bodysurf before we start to surf. It helps teach us how to read the ocean, how to catch and ride waves, and it's just super fun. That simple thrill is what starts this whole lifestyle, and it never fades. Next time you're bummed about the waves not being so good, try leaving your board on the beach and going for a swim. I bet you'll come in with a smile on your face.
Come Hell or High Water, an award-winning bodysurfing film produced by Woodshed Films, will be playing on this Thursday evening, March 21st, at Patagonia Portland. There will be a showing of the film, free beer and popcorn, and a slideshow of photos by Chris Burkard (http://burkardphoto.com/). Chris will also be there to sign his book, Plight of the Torpedo People, which has awe inspiring photos of bodysurfing from the making of the film. The Director, Keith Malloy, and legendary bodysurfer Mark Cunningham will also be there. Doors open at 7:00 and the event will start at 7:30.
