Here is the first of a series of videos showing the different surfboard manufacturers and companies we work with in the shop. We filmed all of these during our winter break and on a surf trip to Southern California. We are very excited to now be working with both Fletcher Chouinard Designs and Patagonia. Both names are synonymous with the highest of standards, unmatched customer service, and industry leading technology.
The Fletcher Chouinard Designs website puts it this way: "When we decided to make surfboards in 1996, we wanted stronger boards with no decrease in performance. “Causing no unnecessary harm” has always been a business goal of ours, so these boards also had to minimize the use of toxic and nonrenewable materials. We were committed to not building “pop-out” boards, because to do so destroys the relationship between surfer and shaper, and because pop-outs keep board design from progressing. We weren’t out to revolutionize the surf industry; just break a few materials and process paradigms." Click here to check out the new FCD Surfboardswe currently have in stock at the shop.
The Patagonia website has this to say about their wetsuits:"Our goal is to make a suit that doesn't compromise flexibility or warmth but lasts three to five times longer." Both companies are looking out for the environment by keeping boards and suits in the water longer and out of the landfill. We currently stock the R3 Hooded Wetsuit in the shop but can special order any model and size you want.
The video shows meeting Fletcher, talking a little story and watching him shape a board. We get to see the guys in the glassing room doing their thing and then tour the rest of the Patagonia facilities. Including the original buildings where Yvon Chouinard started the company, pretty cool. We finish the tour talking with the guys who do wetsuit repairs and warranty work.
Here is something to keep in mind if you own or thinking about purchasing a Patagonia wetsuit. If you damage the suit or have any problems with it, and if it's not covered under warranty, send it back and they will not only fix the issue, but will go through the whole suit and replace anything needing attention, all for a very reasonable fee. Give us a call or stop by the shop for more details if you need your suit looked at.
