I thought it was time to catch everybody up on the status of the Pacific City Skate Park!
As most of you know, the Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic (CKLC) donates 100% of its proceeds to the development of a Skate Park. Over the past 3 years we have raised roughly $16,000. For the past year or so, the CKLC formed a partnership with the Nestucca Valley Community Alliance (NVCA). This is a group of local people who's mission is: "To bring educational opportunities and recreational venues to the community." They have a partnership with Tillamook Lightwave (TLW) and the University of Washington (UW) to develop and manage a portion of the cable landing station property in Pacific City. This is located right here at Cape Kiwanda, behind Doryland Pizza and across the street from us. The property consists of approximately 2.4 acres, of which the skate park will get 25%. They are going to be using the remaining land to build a community park including picnic areas, playground equipment, activity areas, and a small amphitheatre. We now have a great location and fundraising is in full effect, so what's next?
Step one: Before we can start any work, a fence needs to be built to divide the Cable Landing Property and define the 2+ acres for the Park. The cost of the 746 ft chain link fence, gate and related driveway is approximately $27,000. Our goal is to have the fence built by the end of April. Then the task of clearing, grading and moving forward can begin this spring and summer. A local donor is offering to match up to $10,500 and the NVCA has applied for a Tillamook PUD Grant for part of the cost. The Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic has also donated $3,500 towards the fence. But we still need to raise about 20% of the cost from the community. So now is your opportunity to help and here is how:
ONE FOOT AT A TIME. Buy a foot of fence for $25. Remember, there is a matching fund so it is like buying two feet for the price of one. Click here to DONATE and choose the Community Park Fund. All donations received for this fund from now through April will go toward the fence. You can also stop by the shop and make a donation here and we will get it to the NVCA.
Let's get the Skate Park built!!
