Introducing The Discovery Division Grundéns Jacket

When we started to think about making a rain jacket for our new Discovery Division, the first company that came to mind was Grundéns. Born out of the need to protect oneself from the harshest conditions the ocean can generate, Grundéns has been the premier fishing outfitter for decades. Living and fishing along the Oregon Coast, we put on our Grundéns jacket or bibs like someone else puts on a favorite sweatshirt or pair of pants. It’s simply what we do here. So after approaching them and Dark Seas about doing a collaboration project, we couldn’t have been more stoked when everyone agreed.

For the past few seasons, the collaboration between Dark Seas and Grundéns has produced some amazing apparel which has sold very well in our store and online. In particular, the Weather Watch Hooded Sport Fishing Jacket collaboration has attracted a ton of attention. We thought it would also make the perfect jacket for cold water surf adventures.

Waterproof and breathable, this jacket is tough enough for the Bering Sea yet comfortable and practical for everyday use. Tailored from durable nylon fabric with a waterproof breathable barrier and Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish, this hooded jacket stands up to the heaviest rain storms. It allows perspiration to escape and prevents perspiration and overheating while on the search for waves. Fully taped seams, double storm flaps, a drop-tail adjustable hem, a full-sized adjustable hood and cuffs, this jacket is ready to take on the toughest of conditions.

Features:

  • 420D nylon Oxford weave fabric
  • 8k/3k waterproof breathable
  • Fully taped seams
  • Sturdy zipper front with double storm flaps
  • Adjustable hem
  • Full-size hood with elastic drawstring closure
  • Hook-and-loop cinch cuff closures

We launched our ecommerce website in the spring of 2014. Much like our retail store, it's been a constant learning experience from day one. The good, the bad, and the downright "what were we thinking"! Through it all, we've continuously made every effort to keep improving and create a better experience for our customers.
The Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic is on for the 23rd year! We are excited to be back with a live event after two years of virtual events. This year’s contest holds special meaning to the northwest surfing community as we will start off the event Friday evening with a paddle-out in honor of long time contest participant and avid northwest surfer, John Newman. We will also celebrate others we’ve lost in the last two years.
