"Living in Portland, I probably spend more time in the car traveling to and from the coast than I do in the water. If the drive was through traffic the whole way, the 4 hour round trip would be a major hindrance. Luckily, the drive is incredibly scenic.
It doesn't take long to get past the traffic and suburbs and into the scenery, farms, and forests. There's not many commutes that are quite as nice. Arriving to clean waves is a major bonus, but even when the conditions aren't good, it can still be a great trip if I remember to appreciate the whole experience."
