Last weekend the Hotbar Nation boys headed up to La Push, Washington for a weekend of camping and surfing. La push is located on the north Washington coastline and has some fun waves and a pretty awesome campground literally on the beach. The six and a half hour drive from the central Oregon coast was well worth it as we competed in the Annual Traditions Northwest Waterboard event. After leaving late Friday night we arrived in La Push at midnight being greeted by some friends. We already spent most of our money on gas and had little cash left for the weekends food so we were very thankful when invited to crash at their campsite. We woke up early Saturday morning, checked the waves and couldn’t see anything because of the heavy fog bank. After sleeping a few more hours we gave it another try and hit the water. The surf was small and fun and we spent most the day trying out Lib Tech boards during their demo day. Sunday we competed in the Traditions contest along with 32 of the best surfers in the Northwest. Competitors traveled from Oregon, Washington and even Canada to attempt to win the $3,000 dollars in prize money that was on the line. The contest was put on by Lib Tech Waterboards, North by Northwest surf shop, and One Ball Jay. The conditions were challenging but competitors were still ripping and there was some great surfing. Along with Sundays contest, there was a raffle with a ton of prizes and all the proceeds went to the local surf camps. At the end of the day they announced that they had exceeded their goal of two thousand dollars raised. The best part of the trip was the free campfire salmon feed put on by the local Quileute tribe. It was the first time I had campfire Salmon and it tasted awesome. We left La Push by 8:30 Sunday night and got back to Tillamook County around 1:30 in the morning, I had to be at work by 8 but the trip was well worth it and a ton of fun! If you haven’t been to La Push I recommend checking it out!
