Results for the Burrito Retro Classic

The Burrito Retro Classic presented by Ben & Jeff’s Burgers and Tacos along with Moment Surf Company was held this past Sunday in Pacific City. After a few morning showers the clouds broke and the day was filled with sun and good vibes. Despite a challenging swell, everybody on their retro boards charged the overhead waves and some amazing rides were had. Over 30 participants dusted off their classic surfboards, several climbed into their 30 year old wetsuits, and everybody got their groove on. The event was a fundraiser for the Pacific City Skate Park and we are happy to announce that over $700 was raised. A big thank you to those who participated, volunteered or just came out to watch the festivities. In fact, several spectators walked up during the contest and donated additional money to the park. We can’t thank you enough for all the support!

We couldn’t have pulled the event off without the help of Ebon and Nick and their entertaining commentary. Joel for being the head judge and Michelle, Cedar, Hollis and Cliff for everything else it takes to run a contest! A special shout out to Lee Leatherman for donating several boards from his own quiver for people to ride. Keep checking back for a video of the event being donated by Big Wings Media.

Both cheers of support and loud laughter were heard throughout Pacific City this past weekend as surfers and spectators gathered on the beach to root on the participants in the annual Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic. This year marks the 25th running of the beloved community event.
Started in 1998 by Bob and Michelle Ledbetter, the contest has grown to become a staple of the NW surf community. It not only attracts surfers throughout Oregon, but this year saw people from Canada, California, Washington and even Hawaii make the pilgrimage.
Welcome to the team Justin Buford! Justin has been a part of the shop since we opened in 2010. He was a true local grom who would spend his days skateboarding in our parking lot and washing rental wetsuits when he wasn’t in school. His family lived just up the street and his step-dad is one of the best surfers in town. His brother-in-law comes from the legendary South County Surf family the Ledbetters. Surfing is who and what Justin is, it’s in his blood.
