This past weekend was beautiful in Pacific City--especially Friday and Saturday. The Reach the Beach Bike Ride finished in the main parking lot on Saturday. 3000 bikers rode from Portland, Newberg, Amity, or Grand Ronde to give support to the American Lung Association of Oregon. It was great to see such positive energy around town. In a way, the town was the busiest I've seen it. But, at the same time, it was still mellow.
We actually went to the coast without knowing this event was happening. Luckily for us, most of the bikers were too tired to try out surfing. Although the parking lot was taken over, the beach and lineup were essentially empty. This left us with clean little peelers pretty much to ourselves for most of the day on Saturday.
I highly doubt the water will be as uncrowded for the upcoming holiday weekend, but it should be fun to get out there and enjoy the energy of a different kind of crowd, and the extra day off of work. It looks like the weather and waves are shaping up for a beautiful long weekend of beach, bbq's and surf sessions.
